Albert McNeely died on August 17, 1948 at Decatur, Wise County, TX, at age 65.      From the funeral record - farmer and Justice of the Peace - died in Decatur Clinic Hospital of Leukemia - Dr. J. Valcek - age 65 years 2 months and 27 days - Ordained Deacon of the Baptist Church. Albert McNeely was a 32nd degree Mason. He was buried on August 18, 1948 at Greenwood, Wise County, TX.

Merritt Clifton was born on February 15, 1843 at Lusbys Mill, Owen County, KY.       Left Lusbys Mill, KY at the age of 11 years with his father, David Clifton, Jr in 1856 and came to Randolph County, MO. He married in Randolph Co., MO at the age of 23 to Annie Clark. Was a Baptist and a farmer and housebuilder. Was a private soldier in the Confederate Army under General Price. In 1880, he went to Wise County, Texas. The couple had eight children five of whom were born in Randolph County, MO. Sheryl's Note: Finis Clark CLIFTON, their first born, died at the age of 19 months and is believed to be buried in Clifton Hill Cemetery, Randolph County MO. The book recording the Clifton Hill Cemetery burials has his birth date correct but his age at time of death is incorrect. Needs further research. Civil War Pension #14049 - name spelled Merrett Clifton (Sheryl McNeely Shaw has copy of pension file). From Larry Wm Sumpter's posting to MORANDOL list 12-25-98: Clifton, Merritt -- Pvt., Co. Anna 'Annie' Clark was born on December 25, 1853 at Chatham County, NC. She was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Clark and Nancy Henderson. Anna 'Annie' Clark married Merritt Clifton, son of David Clifton Jr. and Frances "Franky" or "Frankie" Cobb, on December 24, 1868 at Clifton Hill, Randolph County, MO.      On the Wise County Census of 1900 it said the father-in-law Jeneral Clark was living with them and that he was a farmer born in June of 1822 in N.C. and both of his parents were born in N.C., too. Civil War Widow's Pension #16982 - listed as Annie Clifton. Sheryl McNeely Shaw has a copy of this information. It is signed by Annie and states that she is born in Chatham County, NC. Affidavit of Witness by W. F. Burton, who served in the same company with Merritt Clifton and also signed by C. C. Clifton (Charles C. Clifton - Uncle Charley, Merrit Clifton's brother.). Anna 'Annie' Clark died on June 14, 1915 at Greenwood, Wise County, TX, at age 61. She was buried at Greenwood, Wise County, TX.

Clifton married Elizabeth McHenry on March 7, 1908 at Denver, CO. [From their son Robert B. Clifton's family records: Bruce and Elizabeth (McHenry) Clifton were married March 7, 1908 in the First Congregational Church of Denver, CO. They had a wedding dinner at the Savoy Hotel and went on a three week honeymoon 'to points east and south'.]. Bruce C. Clifton died on February 28, 1953 at age 81.      Sheryl McNeely Shaw has pictures of them and their sons Robert and Richard. Robert lives in WA. We correspond with him and have seen him on occassion. Bruce had Bruce Clifton General Merchanise store in Tolland, Gilpin County, Colorado. Sheryl McNeely Shaw has a picture of the store next to the Tolland Hotel and the Tolland Post Office.

Ed Clifton was born on October 3, 1873 at Clifton Hill, Randolph County, MO. He was the son of Merritt Clifton and Anna 'Annie' Clark. Ed Clifton married Carrie Kelley on September 8, 1895. Ed Clifton died on June 22, 1919 at age 45.

Francis Jackson Clifton was born on March 7, 1875 at Clifton Hill, Randolph County, MO. He was the son of Merritt Clifton and Anna 'Annie' Clark. Francis Jackson Clifton died on October 28, 1937 at Panhandle, Carson County, TX, at age 62. [He never married. Sheryl McNeeyl Shaw has a copy of his obituary.]. Mattie Beatrix Clifton was born on May 19, 1885 at Greenwood, Wise County, TX. She was the daughter of Merritt Clifton and Anna 'Annie' Clark. Mattie Beatrix Clifton married J A Best on October 11, 1903. Mattie Beatrix Clifton died on January 13, 1966 at age 80.      Aunt Bea and Uncle Gus - Sheryl McNeely Shaw remembers dropping her grandmother, Fannie Lee Clifton McNeely off and picking her up at Aunt Bea's house in Claude, TX. She has pictures of them.

William Floyd Clifton was born on December 4, 1890 at Greenwood, Wise County, TX. He was the son of Merritt Clifton and Anna 'Annie' Clark. William Floyd Clifton married Bernice Splawn on July 17, 1917 at Greenwood, Wise County, TX. William Floyd Clifton died on December 15, 1968 at Decatur, Wise County, TX, at age 78. He was buried on December 16, 1968 at Decatur, Wise County, TX. [Sheryl McNeely Shaw has a copy of memorial page given at his funeral. She remembers Uncle Floyd and Aunt Bernice well, as they came to Greenwood from Decatur almost every Sunday afternoon to visit his sister, Fannie Lee Clifton McNeely. He was quiet, sweet, and soft spoken.].

Carrie Kelley married Ed Clifton, son of Merritt Clifton and Anna 'Annie' Clark, on September 8, 1895.

William Cody Milligan was born in 1876 at TX. [maybe September]. He was the son of Tom(?) Milligan. William Cody Milligan married Bertie Mae Clifton, daughter of Merritt Clifton and Anna 'Annie' Clark, on December 1, 1897.      Cody's second marriage was to Aunt Annie Ford of Decatur. Her sister was Belle Ford, a school teacher. Her brother Frank Ford was a lawyer, but had battled alcohol later. Rocky Ford, another brother, was a football coach. Wm. Watson Clifton played football for him at Decatur Baptist College. Uncle Cody did a great deal for the Clifton family according to Wm. Watson Clifton. Sheryl McNeely Shaw has pictures of them. According to John J.R. Branch in August of 1997, Uncle Cody was one of his father's best friends. J.R.'s father was J.M.
