He was 21 years old when he first married. Patrick Henry Orrick died on February 29, 1940 at Madisonville, Madison County, TX, at age 83. He was the subject of the following sketch at a letter to David Kelley from Truett Wilson Orrick.,: Patrick was born to Andrew and Rebecca (Brewer) Orrick in Pike County, Arkansas on August 22, 1856. In Pike County he met Rebecca Stokes daughter of George Washington Stokes and Clara (Pullen) Stokes. Rebecca was born on August 1, 1858. On September 24, 1876 in Clark County, Arkansas Patrick and Rebecca were married. Their oldest son, Andrew Washington "Andy" was born in Clark County on August 23, 1878. Their other four children, two more sons and two daughters, were born in Pike County, Arkansas. They were Charles Walter "Charlie" born on October 28, 1880, Ann Marie "Annie" born on September 4, 1882, Cornelia Rosetta born on November 2, 1884 and Bailis William born on October 24, 1887. In December 1891, Patrick went alone to White Settlement, Tarrant County, Texas near Fort Worth where his cousins James and Bill Orrick were living. In February 1892 Rebecca and the five children traveled by train from Preston, Faulkner County, Arkansas to Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. After getting off the train and traveling a short distance by rented wagon they were met by Patrick in another wagon. They lived and worked on a farm as sharecroppers in Ellis County, Texas until sometime in 1893, when they moved to Madison County, Texas. [William] Preston Orrick, Patrick's brother; [Granderson] Kurb Griffin and Lewis [Leonard] Griffin, his half-brothers; were already living and farming in Madison County. They first settled in the Hollis Community where they farmed as sharecroppers on the Payne property. They later lived in Greenbrier Community and later still Patrick bought property on the eastern outskirts of Madisonville. At least some of the children attended school in Madisonville. [Between 1900 and 1910] the family moved to Waco, McLennan County, Texas so that the three sons might attend school at Baylor University. All three graduated from Baylor and became Baptist ministers. When they were attending Baylor together they were known as the "ABC" brothers (Andy, Bailis and Charlie). On November 24, 1901 Charlie married Nannie R. Massey who lived in Madison County. They had two daughters, Florence and Hattie Bell. On May 30, 1917 Andy married Emma Fulgham who also lived in Madison County. They had two sons, Truett Wilson and Brooks Wood. On May 25, 1919 Bailis married [in Nespelem, Okanogan County, Washington] Vera [Juanita] Humphries who was from Montana and whom he had met while attending Baylor. They became missionaries to Uruguay South America and served there for 37 years. Bailis was still living at age 96 [he died on February 17, 1988 at age 100] and Vera was still living at age 92.[she died on January 14, 1989 at age 97]. The retired and lived in Waco until their death. [Ann Marie] Annie married John M. Gibbs on July 23, 1903 [in Madisonville, Madison County, Texas]. They had six children, four sons and two daughters. They were named Fred [Corbin], Osmond, R.V. Vera [Sybil], Rebecca and J.M. [John M.]. [Cornelia] Rosetta married [John N.] Johnny Singletary on December 24, 1905 [in Madisonville, Madison County, Texas]. They had six children, five boys and one girl. [Herman Wright, who died at age 5], [William P.] Willie, Elmer [Franklin], [Johnnie] Earl, Annabelle, and Cleo [Harley]. [Between 1910 and 1920] Patrick and Rebecca moved from Waco back to Madison County where they bought a small farm about two miles north of Madisonville. They lived there for the rest of their lives. Patrick died February 29, 1940 at the age of 84. Rebecca died July 11, 1943 at the age of 85. All of their children except one (Bailis) are now dead [in May 1984]. Andrew died December 17, 1962 [in Navasota, Grimes County, Texas] at the age of 84. His wife, Emma died in 1977 at the age of 84. Charlie died May 2, 1965 [in Waco, McLennan County, Texas] at the age of 84. His wife, Nannie died ______ at the age of ______. Charlie married a second time to a woman named Susie ______. Susie Orrick is still living [in May 1984] in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas. Annie Gibbs died September 30, 1965 [in Huntsville, Walker County, Texas] at the age of 83. Her husband, John Gibbs, died in 1956 at the age of 87. Rosetta Singletary died September 29, 1974 [in Madisonville, Madison County, Texas] at the age of 89. Her husband Johnny Singletary died ______ at the age of ______. |
