Her mother was born in Alabama and her father was born in Alabama. The census enumerator indicated she was suffering from a headache on the day he visited. There was a boarder, Robert M. Sanford (age 22) listed with the family. He was born in Arkansas. his mother was born in Tennessee and his father was born in Georgia. Missing from the census were James Benjamin Orrick and Isaac Loller Orrick. Were they dead by the time the census was taken? Mary Jane Harkness married _____ Self before June 11, 1900 at Pike County, AR.      She was enumerated with Saint Patrick Orrick on the Pike County, AR census dated June 11, 1900; Mary J. Self was shown at age 61 as a white female widow born in June 1838 in Alabama, mother of Saint Patrick. Her maiden name was Mary Jane Harkness. Her mother was born in Alabama and her father was born in Alabama. Apparently Mary married a Self between the 1880 census and the 1900 census. Mr. Self was dead by the time of the 1900 census. Mary was listed as having seven children with three of them still living at the time of the census. [These numbers seem to refer to the children she had with James H. Orrick indicating she had no children with Mr. Self.]. Mary Jane Harkness died on October 8, 1908 at AR, at age 70.
