James Orrick was born in 1687 at Anne Arundel County, MD. He was the son of James Orrick and Mary Slade. James Orrick married Priscilla Ruley, daughter of Anthony Ruley, on March 23, 1709. James Orrick died in 1718.

Priscilla Ruley was born in 1693. She was the daughter of Anthony Ruley. Priscilla Ruley married James Orrick, son of James Orrick and Mary Slade, on March 23, 1709.

"Anthony Ruley lived on Fishing Creek, in Anne Arundel County. He was born about 1660 and died between 3 February 1727 and 4 May 1728. His second wife was Rebecca (???), whom he married about 1700. She married (2) 1730 Mazotine and (3) 1734 Walmsley. Anthony Ruley's children were: William Ruley, born 1679, Mary Ruley, born 1683, married Pickett, Frances Ruley, born 1688, married James Cadle, Priscilla Ruley, born 1693, Anthony Ruley, born 1695, married 1722 Elizabeth Cadle. Martin Key I was born in 1670 at New Kent County, VA. [One source has the birthplace as Oxfordshire, England.].       On April 21, 1681 Major Martin Palmer, grandfather to Martin Key and Mr. John Hume gave him 489 acres of land in New Kent County, Saint George's Parish, Virginia. The following information regard this action was recorded in Patent Book 8 on page 43. The land is described as "surplus land within Captain Joseph Croshaw's pattent (sic) and granted to Mr. George Chapman, who conveyed it to said Palmer and Hughes; beginning by Woodward's Road; along John Ford, and said Key, to the maine (sic) Swamp of Cohoacke; corner of the Gleab Land etc." Martin was 11 years old when this "deed of guift (sic)" was granted. Apparently, Martin and his wife, Elizabeth Ford died before April 29, 1706 leaving two sons, Martin and John orphans. They were under the guardianship of William Ford (Was he her father or her brother?). In English law granted land can revert back to the grantor if there are no clear heirs to the grantee. This process is called escheat. In Patent Book 10 on page 316 there is an entry dated December 16, 1714 (one wonders if the year shouldn't be 1704) in which 1500 acres of land escheated from John Humes is in dispute. Actually only 470 acres of it is covered by the entry. It appears that Ambrose Lipscom in behalf of his children: Richard Ambrose, William, John, Mary and Benjamin Lipscom petitioned for possession of that escheat land. The entry also mentions that William Noyes and his wife, Elizabeth; William Holliday; John Ford; John Green; John and martin Key, orphans represented by their guardian, William Ford were opposed to this action. There was a hearing in the General Court on April 29, 1706. 470 acres described as being in "King William County between a branch of the Cohoke Swamp and the main road, a little below the Court House; beginning in Markhams line , by Beckleys old field; on Timber Branch; corner of John Green" was awarded to the opposition. The interesting point of all this is that we see Martin and John described as orphans (and probably brothers) both under the age of 21 (otherwise they could have stood in the Court for themselves). Dr. Gene Key discussing the relationship between Jan and Martin: "It has been suggested that Martin Key was a brother to John Key who married Martha Tandy. Dr. Marcus M. Key has given compelling evidence to suggest this idea as referenced by Virginia Patent Book 10, p. 316. Here, John and Martin Key are presented as orphan brothers with William Ford being their guardian. This was in reference to a 1714 patent in which reference was made to a 1706 escheatment action in King William County, Virginia. It should be noted that it is only postulation say that this John and Martin Key are sons of Martin Key of 1670. Dr. Marcus Key evidently believes that the evidence is compelling enough to make that assertion. I believe the evidence does warrant such a conclusion also. Martin Palmer gave 489 acres to Martin Key (Virginia Patent Book 8, p. 43). There is no doubt that this is the Martin Key of 1670. It is proper to assume that this is the father of the orphans John and Martin Key in 1706. Family Historians have traditionally suggested that Martin Key of 1670 died at an early age. This is also suggested by the fact that Martin Palmer provided in his will for his young grandson, John Key in 1702." In The Official history of Elbert County 1790-1935 the compiler states that John Key (probably Martin Key b. 1670) came to America with William Penn. This statement is some what of a 'family legend' for which I have found no proof. He was the son of John Key and Mary Palmer. Martin Key I married Elizabeth Ford at VA. Martin Key I died circa 1705 at King William County, VA.

Joseph Stauton Key II was born before 1793 at Greene County, GA. [One source has the birth year as 1786. Other sources have the birth date as c 1794. Another source has the date as 1791. And yet another has it as 1789.]. He was the son of Joseph Stauton Key I and Judith Watts. Joseph Stauton Key II married Margaret "Peggy" Grier, daughter of Robert Greer and Margaret Livingston, on October 10, 1811 at Greensboro, Greene County, GA.      He was listed as a head of household on the Butts County, GA census dated July 10, 1860. He was found in Iron Springs District, Stark Post office, page 53, Dwelling 352, Family 361; Joseph was shown at age 69 as a white male born in Georgia. His occupation was farmer. He owned real estate valued at $4000. He owned personal property valued at $11,200.      Living in the household was Margaret Goddard, age 14, a white female, born in Georgia.      He was living next door to his son, Aaron. Joseph Stauton Key II died on July 1, 1861 at Butts County, GA.      From The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 165; page 13 comes the following lineage mentioning Joseph Stauton Key.      Mrs. Wattie Jobson Colquitt.      DAR ID Number: 164034      Born in Perry, Ga.      Wife of Franklin A. Colquitt.      Descendant of Lieut. Robert Grier, as follows:      1. Francis Anthony Jobson (1836-97) m. 1860 Fidelia Higgins (b. 1839).      2. Joseph Higgins (1814-80) m. 1834 Judith Key (1816-80).      3. Joseph Key (d. 1861) m. 1811 Peggy Grier (1789-1873).      4. Robert Grier m. 1775 Margaret Livingston.      [p.13] Robert Grier was lieutenant in the 8th regiment, North Carolina troops. He was born, 1755, in York County, Pa; died in Morgan County, Ga.

Her occupation was housewife. Margaret "Peggy" Grier died on April 13, 1873 at house of Thomas T. McMullin, Monroe County, LA, at age 84. The following obituary was published in The Southern Christian Advocate. page 214, on May 21, 1873:      "Sister Margaret Key was born in North Carolina, April 4th 1789, and died in Monroe county, at the residence of her son-in-law, Thomas T. McMullin, on 13th April 1873. Her parents Robert and Margaret Greer, moved to Morgan county, Georgia, where the subject of this obituary was married to Mr. Joseph Key in 1811. She joined the church then known as the Seceders."; J. M. Bolton. Due West Telescope.

William Wallace Delamar was the son of Churchill Delamar and Mary "Polly" Clayton.      He was Captain of Company H, 27th Georgia Infantry. William Wallace Delamar died on May 31, 1862. [was killed at the Battle of Seven Pines/Fair Oaks, Virginia ].

James Clayton Delamar was the son of Churchill Delamar and Mary "Polly" Clayton.      He was a Sgt. in Company H, 27th Georgia Infantry. He survived the war and lived in Dallas County, Arkansas after the war.

Henry Smith Delamar was the son of Churchill Delamar and Mary "Polly" Clayton.      He was living in Arkansas when the war started and enlisted in Company E, 37th Arkansas Infantry on May 8, 1862. Henry Smith Delamar died on September 28, 1862 at Camp Hope, near Little Rock, Pulaski County, AR.

John C. Delamar was the son of Sheldon Jasper Delamar.      He was a Sargeant in Anderson's Battery, Company B, 14th Battalion Georgia Light Artillery.

Richard Francis Delamar was the son of Sheldon Jasper Delamar.      He was a Sargeant in the 22nd Battalion Georgia Cavalry.

The information on William Key and his descendants comes from many sources. Some of the information comes from websites, some from e-mail messages and some from my own personal research. Every attempt has been made to cite the source(s) of information. Typically what was done was to cite the source(s) at the oldest ancestor so there may not be citations on each individual family member. In some case information applies only to an individual and in that case the citation will be done there.      According to Dr. Gene C. Key: "William Key died in Skagelthorpe, a village about 2 miles north of Settrington, but was buried in Settrington Parish cemetery. There is no proof he was the father of the Keys in Settrington, only circumstantial evidence. There is considerable evidence the children as shown were siblings." William Key was born before 1515. He died on June 23, 1563 at Skagelthorpe, East Riding, Yorkshire, England.
