"The Orricks (or Oric, Orrok, Orrouck, Ourrouck, etc., as the name is variously spelled) are of an ancient family of Scottish origin. According to the authority of "Nesbet's Heraldry," Vol: II.: "Simon de Orrock is without question the ancestor of the House of Orrock of that ilk in the County of Fife, reputed an ancient family," and an honorable one. Sir Simon de Orrock's name is inscribed upon the Ragman's Roll, which for antiquity is the rival of the British Dooms Day Book. The name of Orrick or Orrock is said to have originated from the rock upon that part of the Fife coast where lay the great landed estate of Orrok, belonging to the family of the same name. A history of the Orrock or Orrick family of Scotland, whose arms continue to be borne by the Orricks of America, takes us back to the I3th century. "JAMES ORRICK, or OURROUCK, as his name is quaintly spelled by the scrivener who wrote his will, appears in the Colony of Maryland, about the year of 1650; on Nov. 30, 1665, he was granted a patent for 190 acres of land on the bayside called Orwick; on May 1, 1683, he was granted a patent for 150 acres of land, called Orwick's (Ferry or Fancy), located on the north side of the Severn River; in 1675 a will was filed in Annapolis wherein this James is called James Ourrouck, son of Elizabeth Moose, his father having died, and his mother having married as her second husband Richard Moose. In September, 1681, James Orrick, was paid 510 pounds of tobacco by the Province of Maryland for services he had rendered; his will was probated Nov. 11, 1690, in which he names his wife Mary as executrix, and his sons William, John and James. He m. Mary Slade." James Orrick was born circa 1660 at Anne Arundel County, MD. He married Mary Slade. "Founders of Ann Arundel & Howard Counties, Maryland, by Warfield. (Ann Arundel Regional Publishing Company, April, 1967) refers on page 82 to William Ridgley III, who in 1726 married Mary Orrick, daughter of James and Priscilla (Ruley) Orrick. By the will of Anthony Ruley of South River, 1710, his daughter Priscilla Orrick came into possession, etc. On page 105 there is a reference to William Orrick, and on page 123 references to James Orrick, Mary Orrick, and Mrs. Priscilla Orrick; Abraham Woodward (of William of London) married Priscilla Orrick, widow of James Orrick. "According to Vol. 3 of Baltimore, Its History & Its People, by Hall, the Orrick Family, believed originally Dutch-Scotch, came from County Fife, Scotland. The name is found in the "Ragman's Roll" report to Rome on the clergy. The original Orrick estate in Fife County became a barony and was eventually sold. The lands were given the name Orrick and are still in the family. "First Generation. "James Ourrouch (Orrick) first settled in Maryland. He received a patent November 30, 1665 and on May 1, 1683 another for 150 acres on the North Side of the Severn River. He died, leaving his widow Mary and three children. "Second generation. "John Orrick, son of James and Mary, b. 1685, d. 1749; m. December 5, 1719 Susannah Hammond. "Children: " 1. Rachel, b. November 1720; m. William Hopkins " 2. John, b. February 20, 1722; m. Caroline Hammond. " 3. Nicholas, b. ? " 6. Rebekah, b. September 14, 1733; m. (Dr. Henry) (???) Murray. " 7. Susannah, b. ? m. (Daniel) (???) Sulivane.
