He was a sailor in his youth, and during the Revolutionary War was captured at sea by the British, and held as a prisoner until after the surrender; he served as Justice and High Sheriff of Berkeley County; was a staunch and liberal supporter of the Episcopal Church. Charles Orrick married Catherine Davenport on January 2, 1787. Charles Orrick married Anne Campbell, daughter of James Campbell and Sarah ______. On October 8, 1832 a Charles Orrick appeared as a witness in the pension hearing of Isaac Kroesen. "Personally appeared in open court, before the Justices of this county of Berkeley now sitting this 8th day of October 1832 Charles Orrick and George Porterfield residents and magistrates of said county, who being duly sworn according to law, state that they have been severally well acquainted with Isaac Kroesen who has signed and sworn to the above Declarations, for upwards of thirty five years. That ever since they knew him he has sustained the character of a man of truth and honesty, and has always been respected in the neighborhood where he lives in the said county, to have been a soldier in the War of the Revolution. In which opinion the said Orrick and Porterfield both concur. The believe the statement and declaration of this said Isaac Kroesen to be entirely to the fullest credit and belief." Charles Orrick died on June 18, 1833 at Berkeley County, WV, at age 70. |
