John Jackson Dickson left a will on October 13, 1867 at Pike County, AR, This is the second will that John wrote. In his first will (dated September 8, 1859) he left slaves and other property to his children. By the time he died (after 1867) the slaves had been freed so he no longer had the authority to disperse them. He wrote the following will on October 13, 1867. He was dead by December 14, 1867. State of Arkansas, County of Pike, Know All Men By These Presents: That I, John Dickson, knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, and being in my proper mind and desiring to make a distribution of my poperty among my children before my death, do make and decree that the following shall be my Last Will and Testament. 1st. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Lydia Caroline Vickery, and to the heirs of her body, the following described tracts of land, to wit: The Southwest Qr. of the Northwest Qr. of Section Fourteen in Township eight, South of Range twenty-six, West, in the District of Lands subject to sale at Washington, Arkansas, containing forty acres; also the Southeast Qr. of the Northeast Qr. and the Northeast Qr. of the Southeast Qr. of Section Fourteen, Township eight, South of Range twenty-six, West, containing Seventy-nine and 79/100 of acres; also the Northwest Quarter of the Southwest Qr., all in Section Fourteen, Township eight, South of Range twenty-six, West, containing in all one hundred and twenty-eight and 51/100 acres. 2nd. I give unto Elijah Kelley the following described tract of land, to wit: The Southeast Qr. of the Southeast Qr. of Section Fourteen, Township eight, South of Range twenty-six, West, containing forty acres. This my will, that the above described Lydia Caroline Vickery and Elijah Kelley shall have the above described tracts of land with all the improvements thereon, with all the rights and privileges that are vested in me, and they and their heirs shall have and hold the same forever. 3rd. This my will, that the balance of my property shall be equally divided among my six children, namely: Priscilla Kelley, Clement Dickson, Sion Bradley Dickson, Lydia Caroline Vickery, Beverly R. Jeremiah Davis came to the "forks of the Little Missouri" from Illinois by way of Missouri about 1819 where he died in 1822. He was survived by his wife Stacia Davis and six children: Nancy, Rachel, Clement, Lydia, Isafena, and Sarina Jane.Nancy Davis married Sion Bradley Dickson; Rachel Davis married Rice Stringer; Clement Davis married Mary Saphronia Hancock; Lydia Davis married John Coker; Isafena Davis married Micajah Reeder and Sarina Jane Davis married Beverly R. Baker. These families remained as citizens of Murfreesboro, Arkansas and vicinity for many years. Clement Davis and Beverly R. Baker eventually moved to Polk (now north Howard) county, Arkansas. The Sion Bradley Dickson family moved to Hopkins county, Texas in 1851 and the Micajah Reeder family settled in Texas about 1845 where they lived in Hunt county, and later Wood and Erath counties, Texas. Sion Bradley Dickson married Nancy Davis, daughter of Jeremiah Davis and Stacia Davis, circa 1826 at Clark County, AR. [now Pike County.]. Sion Bradley Dickson died after 1851 at Cumby, Hopkins County, TX. |
