Isham Richardson Bynum Sr. died on December 27, 1967 at Newhall, Los Angeles County, CA, at age 65. [He had gone to California to visit his sons Gene, Elmer and Joe. ].
He was buried on December 31, 1967 at Fairview Cemetery, Pampa, TX.
He was shown as 8 years old living with his parents in the 1910 Carter County OK Census. On August 29, 1920 he joined the Rose Hill Baptist Church by Experience and Baptism. His Uncle John Lile Thompson had donated the property for this Church. His mother Alice Thompson Bynum and Aunt Rose Virginia Thompson were charter members of this church. He was an Oilfield pumper between 1929 and 1964 in Pampa, Gray County, TX. In 1930 he joined the Amarada Baptist Mission found by Bro. E.G. Barrett on the Combs-Worley oil lease and was the Church secretary for several years. One of the notebooks that he kept along with a picture of the church and congregation were donated to the White Deer Land Museum in Pampa, Tx upon the death of Hattie Bynum in 1991. Diary of Isham R. Left Pampa on bus at 7:15A.M. arrived at Rhome, Tx at 4P.M. Ike met me there and we drove to Dallas and stayed the night and next day with Berda (Bynum Sullivan). Left there Tuesday, along with Jack Bynum and wife and daughter and came on to Laura Owens my cousin who lives at Danville, AL we came by way of Greenville,Tx. Page 2 the onion center of east Texas. then on to Texarkana and Little Rock, Ark. and on to Memphis,Tenn. where we crossed the Mississippi River, saw mile upon mile of rice growing in the lowlands of eastern Arkansas, crossed the corner of Tennessee and alway across north Mississippi through Florence and on to Moulton, AL arraiving at 5:00 P.M. July 1, 1953. We drove directly to Page 3 The old Milam Family Cemetery located approx. one and one half mile east of Moulton. Where Grandpa and Grandma Bynum lie buried. Then on to Laura Owen's who is Dad's brothers daughater. Laura is 64 years of age, having lost her husband in 1925. she lives alone in the same old house where she raised her fmaily of 5 children. 4 girls and 1 boy. She has lived in the same house for forty years. Page 4 Thursday morning. Ike and I drove into Moulton, about 3/4 mile from town a truck pul;led out in front of us, and Ike turned into the ditch off the road, to keep from hitting the man. Ike's new car upset and stopped with the wheels pionting up. fortunately no one was hurt. The place we left the car to be repaired loaned us an old car to use but the brakes Page 5 were bad on it so we are staying around Laura's pretty close. Saturday A.M. 4th of July Jack and Greek Bynum our cousins came and got it and we all went to the old Enon Baptist Church where all our relatives here gathered together for a big fishfry and get-together, then after lunch we ate homemade ice cream together, then Ike and I were introduced to everyone present. Page 6 which consisted of appro 70 people, most all of whom were related. Then I made kodak pictures of all our relatives present. Sunday 5th of July no morning service at the Church, we stayed home, after lunch Robert Jones, Laura's granddaughters husband and I went to Decatur and bought ice and milk and we made ice cream again at Laura's. that afternoon. several people showed up for that. Page 7 Then we all went to Church for night services at Old Enon Baptist which is thought to be the oldest Baptist Church in the state of Alabama being organized about 1817. I made a picture of an old grave marker at the Enon Cemetery where H.E> Livingston lies buried. he lived from 1759-1863. Monday 6th of July. I sat around Laura's all AM mail arrived and I got my first letter from home.Page 8 in the afternoon Robert Jones came by after me and I went with him to Decatur I bought a pair of dress oxfords and a few souivneers for my loved ones at home. Then after we got back to Laura's Ike, Johnnie and I went and spent the night with Alice & Arthur Callahan. Alice is my cousin. We came back to Laura's after breakfast Tuesday July 7th. Page 9 then we drove to Trinity, ALabout 20 m,iles east of Moulton and visited the old Great-Grandfather Thompson home another old slave owner. the old house is gone anbd a modern home stands in its place, we found the old spring where our great-grandparents got their drinking water and the old salt-peter caves close by where grandmother kept her milk and butter cool. a draft of cold air was coming out of it. Page 10 that was not over 50 degrees farenh eit. that's all WEdnesday July 8th. Laura and I put out washing this morning while Ike went into town after his car. I decided while he was gone that I about ready to start home. Ike came back with his car about 3 P.M. HE and I drove back to Moulton, to the County Seat to try and find if there was a record of Grandpa Page 11 Bynum's birth and death there, as Ike wanted to put a grave marker at the site of his grave. But we could not find any record ofg his birth and death so we had to gaive up the idea. Then we wnt home and packed and started our return journey leaving Laura's at 7 P.M. we planned Page 12 to drive all night. we arrived at Memphis about midnight, then on to Searacy, Ark, Ft. Smith , and arrived at Okla City about 1 P.M. Thursday the 9th Ike let me off at the union Bus terminal and took off for Healdton, Okla I got my bus out for Pampa at 5 P.M. arrived at home at 10P.M. So ends my trip to Alabama. |

Shortly thereafter they returned to Pampa, Tx. Hattie Lee Owens died on March 21, 1991 at Pampa, Gray County, TX, at age 82. She was buried on March 24, 1991 at Fairview Cemetery, Pampa, TX. was buried on 24 Mar 1991 in Fairview Cemetery at her funeral the eulogy was delivered by her oldest sonI.R.'Dick' Bynum, and sons Elmer, Joe &Ralph Bynum sang several of her favorite songs as per her request. |

She was one of the charter members of this church along with sister in law Rose Virginia Thompson. Her brother John Lile Thompson donated the land and materials for the Church. She joind by transfer of membership 22 Mar, 1910. The following obituary is from the Rose Hill Baptist Church. Whereas on the 31st of Oct. A.D. 1912. THe Lord saw fit in his wisdom to remove from our midst Sister Alice A. Bynum, a member of our Church at Rose Hill who was a faithful member of our Church, also a true member of the Ladies Aid Society, a faithful wife and loving mother. While we miss her from our midst having loved her so well. Yet we know that our loss is her eternal gain, and we bow in submission to him who doeth all things well. In Memorial; A precious one from us is gone, A voice we loved in stilled, A place is vacant in our midst, Which never can be filled, Sister Ella Wood No where is new our sister dear, Gone home to mansions, bright and fair, No more she will shed a bitter tear, She is happy in her mansions there.
