John Lile Thompson was born in 1874 at AL. He was the son of Isaac F. Thompson and Margaret Mary ______. John Lile Thompson married Rose Virginia Cummings on December 19, 1897 at Lone Grove, Indian Territory. John Lile Thompson died on January 25, 1921 at Hewitt Cemetery Wilson, OK. [most likely took his own life on Jan 25, 1921.].       Apparently he carefully planned his death to appear an accident during the day set aside for the purpose of butchering hogs, even with the pot of boiling water, etc. His long-termed deep depression, well known to concerned loved ones, was at least partially produced by the disastrous cotton crop economy. Cotton was their main money crop, of course weather conditions were nearly perfect for cotton production during the summer and fall of 1919. so there was a tremendous over-supply. and prices were so low that farmers like John Lile carried over their crop hoping for a better price in 1920, requiring that that they borrow money to live on. unfortunately there was another bumper crop in 1920. The bottom fell completely out of the cotton market. This blocked all sources to live on, pay off debts of two years and plan another crop. There were stories of a heavy-hearted discussion he had with his minister regarding scriptural teachings about heaven for those who take their own lives. Jusat before his 'accident' he sent all the boys out of his presence to check on getting things in readiness for the butchering. Then they heard the shot . His hope was that his life insurance policies would clear his debts against the farm and make life more pleasant for his family. But his family remembers him as a fun loving man, nice looking and pround who loved to tease, but also could be stern, stubborn and temperamental.
