His first land grant in South Carolina was for 300 acres in 1785. His will is filed in Will Book B. page 107 Apt 4. File# 274. Other grants were filed in 1794 and 1796 on Gilder's creek of Enoree River in Laurens and Greenville Counties, totaling approximately 900 acres of land. Some of this land bordered the land of George Marchbanks. It is not known if this George was the son or grandson of George Marchbanks of Amelia County, Virginia A copy of his will is attached. It is thought they are buried in a small cemetery located about 8 miles east of Simpsonville, off Highway 417 on Coachwood Road, in a pasture. The inscriptions on the stones are dim and hard to read. |
