Lewis Christmas Roark was born on December 25, 1821 at Smith County, TN. He married Fernetta Francis Agee, daughter of Isaac Albert Agee and Joanna [Joannah] Key, between 1842 and 1843.      Lewis left his family in Missouri & joined a wagon train bound for the gold rush in California. On June 12,1850 he wrote a letter from Ft. Sarimary, CA saying that he had filed on a claim to mine gold. (whereabouts of this letter are unknown) The claim was located 50 miles from Sacramento & 25 miles from Georgetown, at Diamond Springs. He died of the fever in 1851 & is buried at Diamond Springs. (we have a letter written by him to his wife, he was on the Cow River Trail, the letter was dated May 13, 1850 and finally delivered in 1853. Lewis Christmas Roark died in 1850 at Eldorado County, CA.
