She was the daughter of Albert Feelonious 'Lavonious' McConnell and Ida Davis.
Julia was the third child of Albert and Ida (Davis) McConnell. She was born about the time the Great Depression hit America and consequently, her childhood was one of hard times for her and her family. She talked many times about that time and said that receiving an apple or an orange for Christmas was for her a big treat. Growing up under these circumstances instilled in her a strong character and a love of family that remained with her throughout her life. This was evident even during her last few months when she was suffering from breast cancer. She never complained about her condition but put the needs of her family above her own. She cared for her aged mother during this time until it became physically impossible for her to continue to do so. She graduated from high school in Opelika, Alabama while, at the same time, worked at a textile mill that was located there. She worked for many years as a seamstress in various sewing factories in Opelika. She liked to crochet as a hobby and made many beautiful items such as bedspreads, table cloths, sweaters, etc. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Opelika and also a member of Lodge 516 of the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society located in Opelika. She was buried November 2, 1991 in Rosemere Cemetery, Opelika, Lee County, Alabama. Julia Mae McConnell died on October 31, 1991 at Opelika, Lee County, AL, at age 67. |

Albert's mother died when he was a small child and his grandparents (Benjamin and Julia McConnell) took him and raised him. Since Benjamin was a farmer, Albert helped him on his farm until he was old enough to go to work in a textile mill located in Opelika, Alabama. \--> Albert did not like his middle name which was Feelonious (even though he gave his son Edward that middle name), so, he changed his middle name to Lavonious. Most of the current records for Albert are listed as Albert Lavonious McConnell. \--> He worked in a textile mill until he became disbled to do so.\-->Albert died of hardening of the arteries and is buried in Rosemere Cemetery, Opelika, Lee County, AL.
