Know All Men By These Presents:
That I, Asa Thompson, of the County of Pike, State of Arkansas, for and in
consideration of the sum of Eighteen hundred dollars to me in hand paid, the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day bargained and sold
unto John W. Williams of Hempstead County and State aforesaid, two negroes,
viz: One negro man named John aged about Twenty years (a Yellow boy); one
negro girl named Lucy aged about Fourteen years, both of whom I do warrant
slaves for life; and I do hereby warrant and defend the right and title to
said negroes against the claim or claims of all and every other person or
persons; And also both to be sound both in body and in mind.
Given under my hand and seal this Eighth day of June A.D. 1839.

Be it remembered, that on this 7th day of June A.D. 1839, Asa Thompson
personally appeared before me, Simon T. Sanders, Clerk of the Circuit Court
in and for the County of Hempstead in the State of Arkansas, and
acknowledged the annexed and foregoing instrument of writing to be his act
and deed, hand and seal, and that he had executed the same for the
consideration and purposes therein mentioned and set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand as Clerk and affixed the
Seal of my office at Washington the 7th day of June A.D. 1839.
