Know All Men By These Presents:
That I, Asa Thompson, of Pike County and State of Arkansas, have this day
bargained and sold unto John W. Williams of Hempstead County and State of
Arkansas aforesaid, a certain Negro Girl Mary aged Eleven years, a slave for
life, for and in consideration of the Sum of four hundred and fifty Dollars
to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged; the rights
and title whereof I warrant and defend for and against the claims of any
other person or persons.
Given under my hand and seal this the 2nd day of April A.D. 1838.

Be it remembered that John D. Trimble the Subscribing witness to the
foregoing bill of sale this day personally appeared before me Andrew C.
Roberts, Deputy for Allen M. Oakley, Clerk of the Circuit Court of the
County of Hempstead, and being duly Sworn states on oath, that he saw Asa
Thompson sign the foregoing bill of sale to John W. Williams on the day &
year it bears date.
