Mr. Thord Dockray

Lubbock, Texas

Dear Cousin,

Your letter came Monday. This is of great interest to me. I've often

wondered what became of all of Dad's people. So glad you were interested

enough to start digging them up. I have often thought of it but didn't

quite know how to go about it. My father had the old records from the Bible

and I faintly remember reading them when I was a child, but of course, they

are no longer in existence. There is however, a picture of Aunt Mary and

Uncle Tom Carter, in my mother's possessions at my sister's. This is as much

of a record as I have, which you may have already received from my oldest

brother, Fred O. McBay. He sent it to me.

Our grandfather General, called G. Marion McBay, born 1831 married Lucinda

Brewer born 1835. To this union, John H. McBay, Oct. 13, 1857, Mary Isabel

McBay, 1859, Sarah Lou McBay, 1862, I remember her, Laura A. McBay, 1865,

William J. McBay, Feb. 13, 1868. There was another baby born some two or

two and 1/2 years later. Grandmother was left alone for a short time when

the baby was very young. Someone had put a pot of peas on the fire and went

outside for some purpose. The peas boiled dry and grandmother got up to pull

them off the fire. She flooded to death, the baby died shortly thereafter.

Then grandfather married again, but I don't know his second wife's name, but

they had five children, Robert, Dovie, Nancy, Lizzie, Thomas.

Fred remembers most of these except grandpa and grandma. I don't recall ever

hearing my father mention his grandparents. But I remember an uncle of his

visiting us one time. He was Uncle Jord Brewer. I was about 8 years old at

the time. He was real old and white headed and played the violen.

That's about all I remember about him. I also remember Aunt Lou. She visited

us that same year. When Uncle Johnnie's second wife died, she came down to

the funeral and spent the night with us. My father died in 1955 and mother

died 1957. I have only one son (and he is) in the Army. I've just become

(a) grandma. I'm 47 years of age, living with my second husband. No. 1, died

in 1947.

I hope this will be of some help to you. But Lucinda was our grandmother.

Because Dad used to have a song that was written about her. I don't recall

what his stepmother's name was, but he didn't get along with her.

We shall be delighted to have you visit us and if we ever get to Lubbock,

I'll look you up. My husband has a brother in or near Lubbock. He is I.W.

Riney and I think he's town Marshall or something connected with the law,

perhaps in a suburb.

                          Sincerely your cousin,

                               Lillie Riney

P.S. Grandfather fought in the Civil War. This may help.
