Delight Citizen Passed Away
An air of sadness prevailed throughout this community Wednesday morning as
it was learned that a faithful friend, a worthy citizen and a devoted
Christian had passed away (July 3, 1940).
R.W. Stell was born December 4th 1870. He was married to Miss Maude Brown
August 9, 1903. To this union six children were born, five of whom survive
him. Deceased had been in ill health for more than three years and had been
confined to his home for several weeks. His death was attributed to a heart
ailment.
But few, if any, men in Pike county are better known than was Mr. Stell. He
has been in the mercantile business for more than forty years, and at
various times has operated stores in Delight, Pike City and Antoine.
Besides his business affairs he was intensely interested in the moral,
social and economic development of the community in which he lived. He lead
an active religious life, having become a member of the Methodist church at
an early age. He is among the last survivors of the Spanish-American War
veterans in Pike county.
He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Misses Pauline and Jessie
Mae, both of this place (Delight) and Mrs. Cline Bryant of Nashville; two
sons, Glenn and Conrad, both of this place; two brothers, Tom of Redland,
California and Charlie of Hugo, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and a host of
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services, in charge of Rev. Geo. W. Robertson and Rev. F.P. Doak
were to be held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, with burial in
the Delight cemetery.
