S.E. Brown Died Saturday
S.E. Brown, aged 84, pioneer resident of this community, died at his home
here last Saturday (February 10, 1940), after an illness of about three
months.
Deceased was born in Georgia, near Atlanta, in 1855 and moved to Pike county
in 1895, where he has resided most of the time since. He operated a gin here
for more than thirty years, and was also engaged in farming for a number of
years. He had been a member of the Baptist church for 65 years and a Mason
for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his widow; three sons, T.W. and B.H. of this place
(Delight) and Ira of Murfreesboro; four daughters, Mrs. H.G. Humphry, Mrs.
D.D. Stone and Mrs. G.R. Duke all of this place and Mrs. Vina Jackson of
Murfreesboro. He is also survived by several grandchildren and a host of
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services in charge of A.C. Kirby, Baptist minister, were held in the
Baptist church here Sunday. The body was in charge of Otis McCullum, local
undertaker. He was given Masonic burial with Wallis Callaway, Alfred
Featherston, Lindell Hile, W.E. Branch and Foy Cagle of Murfreesboro
assisting members of the local lodge in services.
