D.B. Cox Died Tuesday Afternoon
Served in Civil War in the Fourth Arkansas Cavalry Two Years.
D.B. Cox (Uncle B.), aged 90 years, died at his home near Shawmut Tuesday
(October 6, 1936) after about nine days illness.
Uncle B. was well known (throughout) the county, having lived in the county
since 1904, when he settled on Suck creek a few miles northeast of Delight.
He was born in Clark county in 1846, where he made his home prior to his
settlement in this county. He served in the last two years of the Civil War
in the Fourth Arkansas Cavalry and received an honorable discharge at the
close of the war.
The wife of the deceased preceded him in death two years ago. He is survived
by seven children: A.J. Cox, Murfreesboro; J.M. Cox, Hot Springs; W.M. Cox,
Rawls; John D. Cox, Shawmut; W.N. Cox, Mt. Ida; Mrs. Julia Matilda McLard,
Pearcy; Mrs. G.C. Gatliff, Shawmut.
He became a members and minister of the Primitive Baptist church early in
life, to which denomination he lived a very devoted life until the end.
Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon at Macedonia by
Elder Clifton Keeton.
