Pioneer Merchant of Pike County is Dead
Glenwood - S.N. Floyd, aged 84, merchant of Nathan for the past 50 years,
died at his home there Friday afternoon (June 19, 1936) of a "stroke"
believed the result of a fall he received more than two weeks ago.
He was the father of G.C. Floyd of Little Rock, member of the state board
of education.
S.N. Floyd came to Arkansas with his parents in 1853 and located a Rockport.
They moved to Pike county in 1858 and settled at the Crossroads community
near where Nathan is located. Mr. Floyd was one of the oldest (merchants) in
Pike county having been located in the same building he built 37 years ago
for his store.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George Crawford of
Glenwood, and four sons, Jasper, who operates the store at Nathan with his
father, Milwee of Nashville, G.C. of Little Rock and Joe of Hope. All the
children were at home at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon by J.A. Copeland and burial
was in the Nathan cemetery. Mr. Floyd was justice of the peace at Nathan for
many years.
