                        S.T. East Died Wed. Morning                          
                                                                             
             Was Pioneer of County and Ex-Confederate Soldier.               
                                                                             
S.T. (Uncle Sam) East, aged 83, a well known pioneer citizen of Pike county, 
died at his home near here (Delight) Wednesday morning (December 4, 1929) at 
8:10 o'clock after several days illness, following ill health for several    
years.                                                                       
                                                                             
Mr. East was born in South Carolina in 1846, and came to Clark county, with  
his parents in 1857, where he spent one year before settling down in Pike    
county, and had made his home here since that time. He joined the            
Confederate (army) at the age of 15 years and was stationed at Camden,       
Arkansas most of the time during the Civil War.                              
                                                                             
Mr. East is survived by four sons, A.B., of Tonkawa, Okla., W.L. of          
Seminole, Okla., and P.L. East of this place, also two daughters, Mrs. J.F.  
Pollard and Miss Belle East of this place, all of whom were here at the time 
of his death.                                                                
                                                                             
Funeral services were conducted Thursday by C.A. Kizzia, and burial was in   
the Antioch cemetery.
