____________________________________________________________________________ Pioneer Citizen Passes Tuesday Mrs. Mary Wingfield, 75 Succumbs After Several Months Illness. One of the pioneer citizens of this section received her summons to eternity and quietly slipped away to that land beyond the veil about 8 o'clock Tuesday night. Mrs. Mary Wingfield, aged 75, was the departing one, having succumbed to the infirmities of old age after an illness which had rendered her almost helpless for the past six months. Mrs. Wingfield was born and reared in this section, and was well known and loved by all. More than her allotted three score and ten years were spent in this vicinity, during which time she witnessed the growth of this country from a virtual wilderness into a well-settled and normally prosperous farming section which now exists. Funeral services were conducted at Antoine, Thursday afternoon, by Eld. J.A. Copeland of Delight, with burial in the cemetery at that place. Deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jessie Jacobs, Delight, and two brothers, John Dickson of Mena, and Allen Dickson of Oklahoma. The Tribune joins the many friends of the deceased and her family in expressions of sympathy to the bereaved ones. ____________________________________________________________________________ Pike County Tribune, Volume 12, Number 17, June 9, 1933, page 1, column 3. ____________________________________________________________________________ HTML file and design by David Kelley, 1997.
