Aged Pike County
Citizen Died Suddenly
Giles Kelley, aged 95, lifelong resident of Pike county died suddenly at his
home here Tuesday. Mr. Kelley, one of Pike county's oldest citizens and one
of the last of the Confederate war veterans had been in fairly good health
until his sudden death, which was contributed to an heart attack.
Deceased died within only a short distance of the place of his birth and had
never resided outside the county. He was a successful farmer and took an
active interest in church and civic affairs until his advanced age
prevented.
He is survived by one brother Sam Kelley of Elk City, Oklahoma; two sisters,
Mrs. L.J. Lamb and Mrs. E.B. Wingfield of Delight; seven sons, Barnett of
Dumat, Oklahoma; S.C. of Delight; Giles A. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Arlos
of Parson, Arkansas; Harold of Nashville; Hugh of Murfreesboro and Alvin of
California; six daughters, Mrs. Bettye Nash, Miss Maude Kelley and Mrs. N.A.
Lamb of Delight; Mrs. W.E. McWha of Glenwood, Mrs. G.M. Parsons of Abilene,
Texas and Mrs. Emma Slaughter of Pottsboro, Texas. He is also survived by a
host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
He was Phillip Kelley('s), grandfather.
Funeral services in charge of J.A. Copeland, minister Church of Christ, of
Hope, were held at the Church of Christ here Wednesday. Burial in charge of
the Kelley Funeral Home of Glenwood was in the local cemetery.
