Mrs. Emily F. Davis Died Last Friday. (Saturday)
Mrs. Emily Davis, aged 77, widow of the late John F. Davis of Murfreesboro,
died at the family home Saturday (April 3, 1931), after an illness of some
duration. Mrs. Davis was one of the pioneer citizens of this section of the
state. Prior to her marriage she lived at Hope, and her maiden name was
Emily Haynes. Mrs. Davis had been making her home in Murfreesboro for
something like 60 years. She was a consecrated member of the Baptist church
here, and for many years was an active member of that organization. She was
a kind, lovable character, a loving sacrificing mother, and was known and
respected by everyone in this section of the state. Funeral services were
conducted at the home by Rev. Geo. E. Williams, pastor of the Methodist
church. Atty. J.C. Pinnix and Senator Claude Rankin of Murfreesboro and
Circuit Judge A.P. Steel of Ashdown made short talks. Mrs. C.E. Dillard
rendered special music. A profusion of beautiful flowers and wreaths filled
the room where the casket lay. She is survived by six daughters: Mrs. Geo.
Wolff of Bingen, Mrs. Lex Wolff of Hope, Mrs. Dr. Alford, Mrs. Cora
Roundtree, Mrs. Dave Stell all of Murfreesboro, and Mrs. Luke Monroe of
Washington, and one son H.A. Davis of Little Rock, one brother Lafayette
Haynes of New Mexico. Funeral services were furnished by M.H. Brewer, local
dealer. Burial was had in the Murfreesboro cemetery.
