Rev. D.W. Cornish Died Monday Morning
After Illness of Several Weeks Duration
Rev. David William Cornish born at Nathan, Ark. Oct. 30, 1862 died at his
home in Murfreesboro last Monday, Sept. 12th (1927) at 9:00 o'clock A.M.
being 64 years, 10 months, 12 days old. He was married to Ida Hill by his
uncle J.A. Cornish at Center Point, Ark. on October 15, 1885. (He) was
converted during a Methodist revival held by Bro. J.B. Rushing at Nathan in
the summer of 1886. After some years had passed, Bro. Rushing and Bro.
Cornish became close friends while they were both pastors of this town.
After Bro. Cornish's conversion he joined the Baptist Church in his
community, there beginning his Christian life which has influenced so many.
Bro. Cornish did not immediately take up the ministerial work after his
conversion, but 11 years later he took the Cross of the Lord which he so
nobly bore for the remaining 30 years of his life. He was ordained for the
ministry at Sweet Home on February 20th, 1898. Bro. C.W. Strickland, Pastor
of Nashville Church had charge of the ordination. During the earlier years
of his ministry he pastored the church in his home community, and spent 93
days building the Sweet Home Baptist Church. Twelve years of his pastorial
life was spent as pastor of the church at Kirby. In December 1919 he moved
from his boyhood home to Murfreesboro. Every one knows of his ministerial
and daily life here, and for several years he was pastor of the Baptist
Church in this town ...
