October 30th, 1838.
It is hereby certified, That, in pursuance of law, James Erwin Griffin of
Pike county, State of Arkansas on this day purchased of the Register of this
Office, the Lot or the North West Quarter of the South West Quarter of
Section No. fourteen, in Township No. Eight, South of Range No. twenty-four,
West, containing forty acres, at the rate of one dollar and twenty five
cents per acre, amounting to fifty dollars and _____ cents, for which the
said James Erwin Griffin has made payment in full as required by law.
Now, therefore, be it known, That, on presentation of this Certificate to
the Commissioner of the General Land Office, the said James Erwin Griffin
shall be entitled to receive a Patent for the land above described, after
the 22d June, 1840; or for such portion thereof, as shall have been
ascertained not to be claimed by any valid right of preemption under the Act
of 22d June, 1838.

dollars and _____ cents; being in full for the North West Quarter of South
West quarter of Section No. Fourteen, in Township No. Eight, South of Range
No. Twenty-four, W(est), containing Forty acres, and _____ hundredths, at
$1.25 per acre; and for which tract, or such portion thereof as shall have
been ascertained not to be claimed by a valid right of preemption, under the
act of twenty-second June, eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, a patent will
be issued after the twenty-second June, eighteen hundred and forty; and this
receipt will entitle the purchaser or assignee to a return of the purchase
money, without interest, of the land claimed by such preemption right, or of
the whole tract at his option.
