Bounty Land Claim.
Form of Declaration for surviving Officer or Soldier.
State of Arkansas,
ss.
County of Scott,
On this twenty-first day of January, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and
fifty-one, personally appeared before me, W.G. Featherston, a Justice of the
Peace duly authorized to administer oaths within and for the County and
State aforesaid, Washington Sorrels, aged sixty-six years, a resident of
Scott County in the State of Arkansas, who being duly sworn according to
law, declares, that he is the identical, Washington Sorrels, who was a duty
sergeant in the company commanded by Captain Harmon Runnels in the regiment
of Miss. Ter. Militia commanded by Col. Geo. H. W. Nixon in the war with
Great Britain declared on the 18th June 1812, that he was mustered into
service at Fords, Marion Co., Miss., on or about the eighth day of December,
A.D. 1814 for the term, during the war, and continued in actual service in
said war, for the term of one month & a few days, was honorably discharged
at Fords, Marion County, Miss., on or about the 15th day of January, A.D.
1815 as will appear by the muster rolls of said company, he having lost his
discharge. He says, (he) has never received any bounty land or any pay,
whatever.
He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to
which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain
officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the
United States," passed September 28, 1850.
Washington Sorrels
Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written: and I
hereby certify that I believe the said Washington Sorrels to be the
identical man who served as aforesaid, and that he is of the age above
stated.
